Paul Says: “Don’t Panic about Pink”
You may have read in the news this week about some sort of global armageddon in the shape of a lack of pink paint caused by the PR and marketing department behind the latest Barbie Movie. Paul spends many a happy afternoon talking paint with the specialists and he assures us there is nothing to worry about. Just call 07886 902716 to get a quote for your painting and decorating. It’s really OK! Don’t panic! Calm Down now. We’ve checked with the trade counter at Duluxe and they have so much of the stuff there is likely to be a sale soon.
In a stunning collaboration between iconic toy brand Mattel and world-renowned architects and designers, the Barbie Dreamhouse has been given a fantastical makeover a bit like what we do at New Look Decorators, but in pretend, transforming it into a fuchsia fantasy inspired by the vibrant aesthetic of Palm Springs. Architectural Digest Website recently had the exclusive opportunity to explore this whimsical residence, immersing themselves in the vibrant colors and larger-than-life design elements that define this Barbie haven.
From the moment one steps through the front door, says Architectural Digest, it becomes apparent that this is no ordinary dreamhouse like anything we’ve painted or decorated in Derby recently ( or the past 35 years ). The living room, adorned with walls and ceilings painted in an eye-catching shade of fuchsia, sets the stage for a playful yet elegant interior. Designed by award-winning architect Mark Williams, the space boasts custom furniture pieces crafted to match Barbie’s impeccable taste. Velvet pink sofas, mirrored coffee tables, and bold geometric rugs create an atmosphere that seamlessly blends retro-chic with contemporary flair.
We would put pictures here but we’d probably fall foul of their pink copyright.
Painting a kitchen pink?
Moving into the kitchen, designed by renowned chef and tastemaker Alison Roman, visitors are greeted by a feast for the eyes. Pastel-colored cabinets, adorned with gold accents, complement the sleek marble countertops. Oversized pendant lights illuminate the space, casting a warm glow on the retro-inspired appliances. A massive island with a built-in bar offers the perfect setting for Barbie and her friends to sip mocktails while enjoying culinary delights.
Upstairs, the bedroom evokes a sense of glamour fit for a fashionista. The walls, covered in a floral wallpaper reminiscent of Palm Springs’ iconic desert blooms, serve as a backdrop for a luxurious canopy bed adorned with plush pillows and a fuchsia satin bedspread. A walk-in closet, every fashion enthusiast’s dream, houses Barbie’s extensive wardrobe, complete with a shoe collection that would make even Carrie Bradshaw envious.
Stepping outside onto the patio, the Dreamhouse truly comes alive. The expansive outdoor space designed by landscape architect Piet Oudolf mirrors the beauty of the surrounding Palm Springs landscape. Vibrant pink bougainvillea climbs trellises, while a sparkling swimming pool invites visitors to take a dip in style. Chic lounge chairs, adorned with fuchsia cushions, provide the perfect spot for relaxation, while a hot pink gazebo offers shade for outdoor entertaining.
But the highlight of the Dreamhouse may very well be the grand rooftop terrace, designed by renowned architect Bjarke Ingels. Offering panoramic views of the picturesque Palm Springs landscape, the terrace features a whimsical pink spiral staircase leading to a rooftop oasis. A hot tub, surrounded by lush greenery and neon pink fairy lights, serves as the perfect spot for stargazing or soaking up the sun.
The Barbie Dreamhouse is not only a testament to the brand’s enduring influence but also a celebration of modern design and the spirit of Palm Springs. It pushes the boundaries of imagination and invites visitors to indulge in a world where bold colors, sophisticated interiors, and larger-than-life proportions reign supreme.
With its fuchsia fantasy inspired by Palm Springs, the Barbie Dreamhouse truly showcases the creativity and innovation that have made Barbie an enduring icon for generations. Whether young or young at heart, stepping into this whimsical residence is a chance to live out dreams in the most stylish and vibrant way possible.
